Gottfried Helnwein Contd
Seeing the second image does not change my viewpoint of the original photograph because fortunately enough, I hit the nail right on the head. Although the photo is of an artist creating, I still hold true to the belief that the photographer was getting across a different message. However, the portrait by itself does look like a lost girl. The portrait itself is huge, almost the height of a tall building. The size adds to the fact and idea that she is lost, so that more people see her. It looks like the artist tackled the piece by splicing it into sections because of the seams on the canvas. Judging off of the height of the building it is in front of, I think this could be in a more urban part of Ireland. It also shows the artist and some people on a bridge over water, which also leads me to believe its in a well populated area. Because the installment is on a bridge, everyone who needs to take that bridge to get around will be able to see it. Business men, lawyers, doctors; all kinds of people. I'm guessing that the amount of money that went into the materials to create this was way up in the thousands. I think splicing it was the easiest and most reasonable way to be able to mount and engineer it so that it worked. They probably hung up one section at a time, making sure it was aligned perfectly. The image feels kind of sad and lost. The expression on the girl's face shows a sort of longing and sadness.
